Salary: $36.00-$40.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal & Provincial income taxes & other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 30-35 hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities

  • Inspect walls, ceilings, and other painted surfaces to identify cracks, holes, dents, water damage, and other imperfections requiring repair prior to painting.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by removing loose plaster, damaged drywall, peeling paint, and other deteriorated materials.
  • Repair damaged drywall and plaster surfaces using patching compounds, fillers, joint compound, and other repair materials.
  • Install drywall patches, joint tape, and corner beads where required to restore damaged wall and ceiling surfaces.
  • Mix and apply plaster, joint compound, and patching materials to repair and level surfaces before painting.
  • Sand repaired and patched areas to produce smooth, even surfaces suitable for primer and paint application.
  • Match existing textures and finishes on repaired walls and ceilings to ensure a consistent appearance after painting.
  • Measure, cut, and fit drywall patch materials as required to complete surface repairs prior to painting.
  • Operate hand tools, sanding equipment, spray equipment, and other surface preparation tools safely and efficiently.
  • Protect adjacent surfaces, fixtures, and flooring during repair and surface preparation activities, and maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Collaborate with painters, supervisors, and other tradespersons to ensure repaired surfaces meet quality standards and are ready for painting within project timelines.

Employment Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 7 to 12 months of hands-on experience in drywall patching, plaster repair, or surface preparation is required.
  • Physically demanding work requires standing, bending, lifting, climbing ladders, and working on scaffolding for extended periods.
  • Basic communication skills in English are necessary, with the ability to follow instructions from a supervisor and communicate with coworkers.
