Salary: $34.50-$37.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to all applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 30.0-40.00 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week

Job Summary:

Nlytn is seeking a Home Automation Configuration & Support Technician to configure, program, troubleshoot and provide technical support for residential home automation systems, with a primary focus on Control4 and similar integrated smart-home platforms.

The position involves configuring automation software and connected devices, programming system functions and user interfaces, diagnosing software and connectivity issues, supporting network-connected automation equipment, and providing technical assistance and training to end users. The technician will work with integrated systems involving lighting, climate controls, motorized shades, audio/video equipment, security devices, access controls, sensors and other compatible smart-home technologies.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Configure, program and support Control4 and similar home automation platforms according to system designs, project specifications and client requirements.
  • Configure system controllers, device properties, drivers, user interfaces and software settings to integrate compatible smart-home equipment into centralized automation systems.
  • Program automation scenes, schedules, events, actions, notifications and conditional functions for lighting, climate control, motorized shades, audio/video, security and other connected systems.
  • Configure and support Control4 mobile applications, touchscreens, remote controls and remote-access features for end users.
  • Communicate with users experiencing technical difficulties to identify, reproduce and document problems involving automation software, applications, controllers and connected devices.
  • Diagnose and resolve software, programming, configuration, connectivity and device-integration issues through remote technical support and on-site service.
  • Configure and troubleshoot network-connected automation equipment using Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Zigbee and other supported communication technologies.
  • Consult Control4 documentation, manufacturer specifications, technical manuals and system records to research technical problems and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Test programmed functions, scenes, schedules, device communications and user interfaces to verify proper system operation following configuration or service work.
  • Perform software, firmware, driver and configuration updates and reconfigure affected system components to maintain compatibility, stability and functionality.
  • Modify and optimize automation programming and system configurations based on identified technical issues, system changes and approved client requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to users on Control4 and similar systems, including applications, touchscreens, remote controls, scenes, schedules and basic troubleshooting.
  • Coordinate with installation technicians and other technical personnel when hardware or cabling issues are identified and verify system functionality following repairs or equipment replacement.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to clients and respond to software, application, connectivity, programming and system-operation issues after system commissioning.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • Completion of a college diploma, certificate program, or post-secondary coursework in information technology, electronics, telecommunications, computer systems, or a related field or equivalent work experience is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant technical experience in home automation, smart-home systems, integrated technology systems or a related technical support environment is required.
  • Experience configuring, programming and troubleshooting Control4 or similar home automation platforms, including controllers, device drivers, applications and connected devices, is required.
  • Working knowledge of Control4 Composer Pro or comparable automation software, including scenes, schedules, events, actions, conditional programming and device integration, is required.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Zigbee and network-connected devices, with the ability to diagnose software, connectivity and device-integration issues, is required.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting, communication and customer-service skills, with the ability to provide on-site and remote support and technical guidance to end users.
