About the Position

A family in Mississauga is seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Personal Support Worker to provide individualized daytime care and companionship to a 98-year-old female resident living in a residential care facility. While the facility provides general care services, the family wishes to engage a private caregiver to offer additional one-on-one support, companionship, supervision, and assistance with daily activities throughout the day.

The successful candidate will work closely with the client and cooperate with facility staff to enhance the client’s comfort, safety, emotional well-being, and quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized companionship and emotional support.
  • Assist with personal care activities, including grooming, dressing, and personal hygiene as required.
  • Assist with feeding and hydration during meals and snacks.
  • Encourage and assist with mobility, walking, and light exercise activities as permitted by the client’s health condition and facility guidelines.
  • Accompany the client during recreational activities, social interactions, and appointments within the facility.
  • Monitor the client’s comfort and general well-being and communicate concerns to family members.
  • Provide cognitive stimulation through conversation, reading, games, and other meaningful activities.
  • Assist with positioning and comfort measures throughout the day.
  • Maintain accurate communication with family members regarding the client’s daily activities and condition.
  • Collaborate respectfully with residential care facility staff while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Ensure the client’s dignity, privacy, and independence are respected at all times.

Client Profile

The successful candidate will provide support for:

  • A 98-year-old female senior
  • An elderly individual requiring assistance with activities of daily living
  • A client benefiting from mobility assistance and supervision
  • A senior requiring regular companionship and emotional support

Qualifications

Education

  • No degree, certificate, or diploma required.

Experience

  • Previous experience as a Personal Support Worker, caregiver, health care aide, or home support worker is preferred.
  • Experience working with elderly clients is considered a strong asset.

Certification

  • Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification are assets.

Work Setting

  • Residential care facility.
  • Non-smoking environment.
  • Daytime private caregiving assignment.
  • On-site work only; remote work is not available.

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

  • Combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Occasional assistance with mobility and transfers.
  • Ability to remain attentive and engaged throughout the workday.
