Salary: $35.00-$38.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP.
Vacation: 4% of the gross salary
Hours of Work: 30.0-40.00 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week

Job Summary:

The Telecommunications Technician (Security Systems, CCTV & Access Control) is responsible for the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of electronic security systems, including CCTV surveillance, access control, and related low-voltage infrastructure. The role ensures all systems are installed in compliance with technical standards, safety regulations, and client requirements in alignment with Smart Connect Inc.’s security solutions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure & test, telecommunications equipment, including CCTV surveillance systems, IP and analog cameras, NVRs/DVRs, monitors, and networked equipment.
  • Install and program access control systems such as card readers, keypads, biometric devices, electric strikes, magnetic locks, and door controllers.
  • Run, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling including Cat5e/Cat6, coaxial, and fiber optic cables, mount racks, patch panels, and enclosures.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and system layouts.
  • Configure system software, firmware, and user permissions; integrate systems with networks and monitoring platforms.
  • Perform system diagnostics, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs to ensure optimal performance.
  • Conduct system testing and commissioning to verify functionality, coverage, and compliance with specifications.
  • Document installations, service reports, wiring layouts, system configurations, and materials used.
  • Provide basic user training and operational guidance to clients following installation.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely project completion.
  • Comply with applicable safety standards, electrical codes, and industry best practices at all times.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required; post-secondary diploma or technical certification in electronics, electrical, or a related field is desired.
  • 6-12 months experience with low-voltage wiring, structured cabling, and security system hardware is required.
  • Knowledge of IP networking, PoE, system integration, and security protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Effective communication skills for client interaction and documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to travel to client sites as required.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
