Position:   Switch Network Installer

Duration/Type:  Full Time 
Location:  Field, various sites throughout Ontario 
Reporting office:  2500 Williams Pkwy, Unit 49, Brampton, ON L6S 5M9 
Salary:  $36.14-$38.00 per hour; The gross salary paid is subject to applicable Federal and Provincial income taxes and other statutory deductions such as EI and CPP. 
Vacation:  4% of the gross salary 
Hours of Work:  30-40 Hours a week. Overtime rate (X1.5) applicable after 44 hours of work per week 

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities 

  • Install, configure, and set up network switches, analog and digital trunking systems in data centers & telecommunications facilities. 
  • Ensure proper cabling and connectivity between switches, routers, servers, and other network devices. 
  • Install network equipment in server racks or cabinets, ensuring proper spacing, ventilation, and cable management. 
  • Configure network switches according to specific requirements, including VLANs, port settings, and security policies. 
  • Perform quality checks and testing to ensure that switches are functioning correctly and meeting performance standards. 
  • Diagnose and resolve network switch issues, such as connectivity problems, packet loss, or performance degradation. 
  • Coordinate with other network technicians, cable installers, and teams to integrate switches into the overall network infrastructure. 
  • Keep track of switch inventory, order replacement parts or switches when needed. 

 Education and Experience Requirements  

  • Completion of secondary school is required. 
  • 7-12 months experience in installation of telecommunication transmission lines & with single mode & multi-mode fibre, fusion splicing and 3-6 months experience in installation of switch networks/trunking systems required. 
  • A strong understanding of networking principles, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, VLANs, routing, and switching technologies. 
  • Proficiency in physically installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network switches and related equipment. 
  • Understanding and adhering to telecommunications regulations and compliance standards 
  • Valid driver’s license to travel to various installation sites.
